Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

jsolly.com is the personal website of John Solly, including his blog and recipes. It's a static site with no analytics or advertising trackers of its own, and it does not collect personal information directly.

Contact form

If you reach out through the contact link, your message is handled by Mailchimp (an Intuit company) and is subject to Mailchimp's privacy policy. Please don't send anything you wouldn't want stored there.

Hosting & logs

The site is hosted on Vercel, which may record standard server and CDN logs (such as IP address and user agent) for security and operations, per Vercel's privacy policy.

Blog images

Most blog post images are served from Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3, which may likewise record standard request logs (such as IP address and user agent), per the AWS privacy notice.

Embedded media

Some blog posts embed YouTube videos using youtube-nocookie.com or diagrams.net diagrams. An embed loads from that service as it scrolls into view, so the service receives your request, and YouTube may set its own cookies, per Google's privacy policy. Posts without embeds make no such requests.

Recipe settings & offline use

The recipe library remembers your settings (servings, filters, appliances on hand and family sides) in your browser's local storage. To work offline, the recipe pages also install a service worker, which runs only on pages under /recipes/. It downloads copies of the recipe pages, their images, the app icons, the scripts, styles and fonts those pages use, and the recipe library's two data files from this site into your browser's cache. Your settings and those copies stay on your device and are never sent to the site; clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. A recipe link you open or share does carry its servings and family side in its address.

Scripts & styles

All JavaScript, CSS and fonts are self-hosted, and a content security policy stops scripts from anywhere else from running.

This site links to other websites, whose privacy practices are their own. Links in the text of blog posts carry rel="noopener noreferrer", so the site you open does not learn which page sent you or get a handle on this one. Other links share at most the address jsolly.com, and a post's share buttons send that post's address to the service you pick.

Cookies

This site sets no first-party tracking cookies. Third-party embeds, such as YouTube videos, may set their own.

Children

This site is not intended for children.
